Getting Personal with Sam — Sire (Beautiful Monsters)
MM BOOK ESCAPE HAD THE CHANCE TO SIT DOWN WITH SAM FROM SIRE, VOLUME II OF JEX LANE’S BEAUTIFUL MONSTER SERIES AND ASK HER SOME QUESTIONS THAT I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT AFTER READING THE BOOK AND SHE GRACIOUSLY ANSWERED THEM FOR ME.
SHE IS AN INCREDIBLE YOUNG LADY WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT AND HER JOURNEY IS FAR FROM OVER. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THE INTERVIEW AND MAYBE FIND SOME ANSWERS TO SOME OF YOUR OWN QUESTIONS.
M- Hi, Sam. Thank you for taking time to answer some questions. I can’t imagine what you must be going through right now. You’ve been on the run non-stop since you came into Matthew’s life. Can you tell us what happened, or what you saw that led you to seek out Matthew?
S- I just knew. I've always known that our fates were tied together. All my life I've seen flashes of him. Not a lot, but enough. When he came to Chicago, it wasn't time for us yet, but I needed his help. I paid the price for that.
M- When your visions first began, how did you know what you were seeing was the future? How young were you when you saw your first vision?
S- Young. Maybe five. It was confusing at first and made no sense. I see echoes of the future and of the past. Eventually I figured out what was going on. It didn't start happening often until I was thirteen.
M- I’m so sorry about your parents, Sam. They were killed when you were fifteen. You are now nineteen. What have you been doing for four years by yourself?
S- Surviving. Money's hard. It's difficult to keep a job when visions overwhelm me. I'm not proud to admit I lifted wallets, but I never took more than I needed. Don't tell my father—he might be disappointed in me. Then again...he kills people, so maybe not.
M- How long had you been searching for Matthew when you found him in the night club?
S- Not long. I knew where he'd be. I should have waited a few moments until after he got dressed.
M- Matthew turned you in order to save your life, but in the process weakened your abilities. Did you hate him for that—at first, anyway?
S- I don't think it was hate so much as confusion. As a vampire, it's hard to hate your sire. I think that’s part of the bond. I still get mad at him, but it fades.
M- What’s it like sinking your fangs into the neck of another person and drinking their blood?
S- I've only done it with Father but it's the best feeling. It's a connection. And taking a part of them into you is...powerful. It turns me on to be honest. I wish it didn’t. It makes things confusing.
M- What are some of the fun times that you have had with just you and Matthew, as you two bond together as father and daughter?
S- Our stay at the cabin holds some of my best memories. Sometimes, he would take me out to stalk humans. We didn't feed but I liked staying in the shadows, watching them. And I enjoyed the end of the night when Devak, Jet, Father, and I sat around talking. Well, it was mostly Father talking while we listened, but it was nice.
M- Do you really want to sleep with Matthew? In a sexual way?
S- I did. He's smoking hot, you know? I think maybe the bond has me confused. I don't think he could give me what I really want...a relationship...love. I'd be jealous if he slept with others and he has to feed. I don’t think I could ever be with an incubus.
M-What was your relationship with Devak after you got to know him? Did you get over your jealousy of him with your father?
S- Our relationship was a little weird. Devak watched out for me—he even cared for me—but I couldn’t help feeling a small sting of jealousy. Even still, I loved him. And he was good for my father.
M- Do you ever feel like you could have given Matthew more information than you did? I know you say you only get bits and pieces, but sometimes you seem to enjoy making him work for answers.
S- I have to be careful with the visions. What I see is destined to become true. That doesn’t mean that the future can’t be changed, but when it is there are massive repercussions to the entire universe and me. My father is the type that doesn’t like the idea of fate. He fights it. Telling him too much means he’s more likely to try and change things. That’s why I won’t tell him everything.
M- What has been the scariest part of this journey so far for you as you make your way to Delphi?
S- The night of the masquerade. I knew what had to happen. I knew how it would turn out, and I still feared it. Feared how Father would look at me after, what he'd think of me.
M- Is there anything you can tell us about Delphi and what happened that night, Samantha? The joy from removing Devak’s curse must have been tremendous, and then to Matthew’s Sire showing up and hell breaking loose had to be devastation.
S- That night...it was awful. Terrifying. And now I’m angry at those who took my family from me. They underestimate my power and what I’m capable of. Soon they won't.
M- Sam, thank you for answering these questions and for hanging out with us for a little while.
