His innocence was the fire that blighted the deepest dark, but even he can't save the King from a past stained so black, the devil won't even touch it.
Years creep up on you, like a rotting hand: cold and wet, it will drag you down into your grave.
Life will hand you eternity only to rip it away from you.
Love will slaughter you in the most beautiful way and still manage to nail you in the ass, bareback, when you see him choose the heart of another man.
But Death... He is a patient soul. He waits, and he waits, and he waits.
'Cause the bastard knows he will always have the last laugh when he knocks at the door.
Memories were all I had, all I had clung to as my heart turned to stone and finally to dust.
Now he is mine and I will hold him, and I will kiss him. We will dance and we will laugh, and we will cry... We will be human together...
I did not know heaven until I knew him.
There is no greater power that can tear and rip your world apart as when their lips finally kiss yours again.
But being human comes at a fatal price.
Sometimes you have to let go of the hand you hold onto so tightly that it brought pain, because that is the only way you can save them from Death.
Why did she take them away, hand them back, then force me to choose?
Is love really that cruel, that she would enjoy tormenting you as you watch the two men you love with your whole heart, kill each other...?
And then, my worst fear, my deepest darkest nightmare became a living breathing thing.
Death had come to take from us what we could never replace.
There is no fairy tale when you live in Hell.
Hades has been there enough to know and I feel certain there is where he now stays.
Make no mistake this is not a romance, although there is love, so much love that drives the actions of two hardened, strong-willed monsters searching for their little lion, Rex, who went missing a year ago.
"But it's the courageous lion that roars in his soul which is the only thing in this world that can stop the demon slumbering in our blood...or bring it out in full force."
As Hades and Kemona work together to find Rex—slicing through their contacts at a fever pitch—a connection is forged between them. A love-hate relationship, both needing a connection, yet both fear they are neither good enough for Rex and will lose out when the time comes to the other.
Rex should have stayed where he was, safe and protected, but he got scared and ran. He's made his own connections and formed friendships while away from his Daddy Hades this past year, but no one has ever taken his place in his bed or heart.
As the three come together, at last, Kemona is man enough to acknowledge that he needs Hades by his side to guide him and offer support with Rex. He loves him but being the cold-hearted and killing monster that never gave in to his desires is a long way from showing love and compassion.
Rex, however, while accepting and relieved to have both of his men with him still holds back in hopes to push these two hell-beasts together... to see each other as he sees them—individually.
"When Time has devoured itself, and Death knows its own name, believe I love both of you. I always will."
Unfortunately, there is so much pain, torture, and nightmares that live within Hades. Can a man in his position ever open himself enough to love two men, wholeheartedly? It's doubtful he even wants too.
Kemono, on the other hand, was far more open to the possibility never having love within his heart. Never having a home that felt his own. There is more on the line than love, however. They are wanted men. Hunted men. Dangerous men.
All three stand at a crossroad, all three waiting for the ax to drop, the blood to fly and gut their hearts.
You had showed me love within chaos.
Beauty within darkness.
Life within this ever Hell.
Make no mistake they all will be filleted as will you...the reader. Will there be anything left to salvage? How far will a demon 'possessed' go to win the war?
Komainu: Of Gods and Monsters is dark, brutal, and painful to read exposing a demon hell bent on not only finding but keeping the one true love of his life. Even the toughest, strongest of men have a weakness and in the case of Hades, his weakness is Rex, his little lion.
I felt like Rex made so many wrong moves that pushed Hades to his breaking point, that had he stayed put or talked it out with someone, he would have saved so much heartache and pain. Time will tell if years of separation gave him enough maturity and strength to earn his place on the devil's side.
