Close friends and partners at FireWorks Security, Joel Weston and Kieran Ross know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They have each other’s backs, make a formidable team, and carefully ignore their volatile chemistry.
When Kieran struggles with the aftermath of an assignment gone wrong, Joel is there to help. When Joel is caught in an explosion, Kieran jumps into a burning marina to rescue the man who means so much to him. But they never discuss what’s closest to their hearts, not prepared to risk their friendship for the mere possibility of something more.
Faced with bombs, assassins, and old ghosts, Joel and Kieran must find out why they’re targets, who is coming after them, and—most of all—how each would feel if he lost the other.
Should they continue as best friends, or is it time to take a leap of faith?
Leap of Faith is the first book in Jackie Keswick's FireWorks Security series and opens with Joel Weston watching over his partner and friend, Kieran Ross, reciting to himself "this isn't a suicide watch."
Kieran, an ex-DEA agent, moved to Connecticut four years ago and joined FireWorks Security—owned by the Weston family—to start a new life and put his demons behind him after working undercover many years. He still keeps a lot of that time to himself—some by choice—some because he can't remember—and he's constantly haunted by nightmares that continue to plague him.
When their latest mission rocks Kieran to his core, for failing to save a woman falling from a roof, Joel decides an intervention is needed. What should have been a relaxing day of good food and friends turns into being in the wrong place at the wrong time and a fight for their lives that will test every skill and strength the team has.
Kieran and Joel were innocent bystanders when they overheard a fight taking place on the Marina causing them to explore further. Leaping into action—trying to save a child—soon turns into yacht explosions, assassination attempts, and being on the run... not knowing who to trust, if the team has been compromised, and who is trying to kill them.
With the help of Dr. Dale Weston (Joel's uncle) and Dr. Marius Leven (an ex-Army DR), they get to safety but it only opens up more questions with no answers. Who are these people chasing them and why? Who is Dr. Leven and how does he fit into the equation? We get a few of these answers, but not enough for the reader to get a full picture leaving you on pins and needles of what's to happen next.
Kieran puts his life on the line trying to find some of these answers and, also, because he would do anything to save Joel, the man he has loved since the day he started at FireWorks. Both men feel the same but put their friendship above their need for anything else.
However, jealousy helps to push the men to admit some of their truths with each other and while they have great chemistry and their connection is explosive, they have other more pressing explosions to worry about putting their feelings on the back-burner.
Leap of Faith was a page-turner from the get-go and I couldn't read fast enough. This was my first time reading anything by Ms. Keswick and I really enjoyed her fast-paced narrative with the action-packed scenes that were full of deception and conflict.
The romance was not the main focus but ran parallel to the high octane hunt or be hunted story-line keeping me hooked till the end. I can't wait to read more in the series and see where the author takes us next. Who is hunting these men and why? Were they compromised? Is Dr. Leven trustworthy or is he setting them up? There is a cartel in the mix and I can't wait to see what happens.
If you like the thrill and chase with mystery and suspense and just enough romance to make you hungry for more, I highly recommend Leap of Faith.

Jackie Keswick was born behind the Iron Curtain with itchy feet, a bent for rocks and a recurring dream of stepping off a bus in the middle of nowhere to go home. She's worked in a hospital and as the only girl with 52 men on an oil rig, spent a winter in Moscow and a summer in Iceland and finally settled in the country of her dreams with her dream team: a husband, a cat, a tandem, a hammer and a laptop.
Jackie loves unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who don't follow the rules when those rules are stupid. She blogs about English history and food, has a thing for green eyes, and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.
And she still hasn't found the place where the bus stops.
For questions and comments, not restricted to green eyes, bus stops or recipes for traditional English food, you can find Jackie Keswick in all the usual places:
