Tristan’s love life has one simple rule:
his brother, Trevor, is off limits.
To fight his relentless love for Trevor, Tristan left for college at sixteen.
A new city, building a new life for himself, and making new friends weren’t enough to give up what he considers sick, twisted feelings.
Tristan even started an anonymous blog to cope with his love for his older brother. It made him famous on the Internet, but it wasn’t enough to get over his obsession.
Every time he goes home, a quick glance at Trevor brings it all flooding back.
When commitment-phobe Trevor introduces his serious boyfriend on one of Tristan’s rare visits home, things get a whole lot more complicated for the adoring kid brother.
How far can Tristan run this time before he runs out of places to hide from his feelings?
Disclaimer: the main characters in the story are not blood relatives, the two boys were only raised as siblings.
I sat down to read Br0th3rly—see if it may be something I would enjoy reading—and the next thing I know a couple hours have gone by and I’m at the end.
Tristan is a hoot, but oh my…did he pull on my heartstrings. He’s carried unrequited love for his older brother—a brother not blood related, btw—however, they’ve been raised as siblings, so Tristan has struggled for years with shame and guilt over his feelings.
Trevor, the older brother, loves his little bro madly, going out of his way to try and repair the bond that has been damaged over the years—the thing is he just doesn’t understand what he did wrong to make his brother stay away from him.
With it being Mom’s birthday weekend, Tristan feels he can’t avoid the family—especially Trevor—any longer so he heads home but, what he doesn’t expect is for everything he has been hiding for so long to blow up and start a domino effect. One that—may or may not be—the end of everything he has ever wanted in life.
Br0th3rly is told from Tristan’s POV and to help himself cope with his feelings early on he started blogging...anonymously. We get to read some of these journal entries which allows the reader to get to know him on a more intimate level—and maybe because of these entries—I also felt like I knew a lot more about Trevor.
This is my first time reading anything by Alina Popescu so I didn’t know what to expect, but I was completely sucked into the story from the very beginning. I enjoyed the heck out of it and was keeping my fingers crossed the whole time that things were going to work out.
Within this novella there is a well-developed story, lots of humor, low-level angst—although I did get teary at one point...nope, can’t tell you why—the bedroom chemistry is hot and sexy "that doesn’t necessarily stay in the bedroom" and the writing flowed seamlessly—which I loved.
What I loved the most… there is great family support—something you hardly find in stories—and it’s so rewarding to see that it does exist. Highly recommended especially if you are short on time and just want a feel-good story with a happy ending.
