LA cop Jericho Crewe got the hell out of Mosely, Montana, when he was seventeen.
Fifteen years later, he’s back, and everything is just as messed up as when he left. He planned a quick visit to deal with his injured father, but of course things are never that simple. Family complications, police complications, social complications—and, as always, Wade Granger complications.
Jericho and Wade had been so close, once upon a time.
First friends, then more than friends—and then, after Jericho’s escape, nothing. Wade’s magnetism hasn’t been lessened by a decade and a half apart; even when Jericho learns that Wade is the prime suspect in the death of Jericho’s father, the old connection still sparks.
When Jericho’s newly discovered half siblings are kidnapped, he needs to trust someone to help him find them.
Wade’s a terrible choice, but Jericho’s never been known for his good judgment.
Anyway, he’d rather make a bad decision with Wade than a good one with anybody else.
I haven’t sunk my teeth into a Kate Sherwood novel in a long damn time and it felt good to go there again. I’ve always loved her books and Long Shadows was no different. And dayum. . .I’m going to love this series—I do believe.
Jericho Crewe, the smart-ass cop from LA—who left the hills and the abusive father—the bad memories—the bad-boy—all in his rear-view mirror, gets called back because his dad supposedly is hurt, however he’s far more than hurt, he’s dead. Now, Jericho feels like he needs to stick around and find out what the hell happened.
The problem with that is—one of the things or persons he left behind—was bad-boy Wade Granger who is still a bad-boy and I think the one I’m going to be rooting for. There’s just something about him that I’m liking and "oh man" was the lust and tension thick between these two and. . .they didn’t even touch. Not even a kiss on the cheek or a hug for good ole' time’s sake. NOTHING!! But, it was yummy and Kate Sherwood made you feel it in your gut. It was ripe on the page.
Oh, yeah. There’s two little kids who are his half-siblings he didn’t even know existed who are meaner than snakes and wild as little animals but had me laughing at their antics. They are going to be fun to see if Jericho can tame them but I bet they end up best friends before it’s all said and done. And, their mother, Nikki. Well. . .she's a character, for sure, lol She was growing on me by the end of the book. I give her mad props for her mother bear claws but other than that she is a nut.
I can’t wait to dig into book two, Embers, and see where these guys go next—see if the tension gets any hotter—now that Jericho has decided to stay in Montana and help the Sheriff’s department. I sure hope so, but the suspense and the mystery is addicting also. A good start to a series I think I’m going to enjoy, but I need to keep reading to see if it moves at a steady pace or starts to drag.
Kate Sherwood is a great author—and even though there is no romance to read about here—I can't help but think it's coming. I, for one, love the slow burn. However, I'm going to need to at least see some sparks starting soon.
