Soul Searching by AJ Rose is a paranormal thriller with a friends-to-lovers romance simmering in the background.

Trevor and Merrick have been best friends for a long time, sharing everything together except the fact Trevor is hiding his true feelings from Merrick—he harbors much, much stronger feelings. Trevor fears telling his truth would alienate their friendship, and it's not worth losing his best friend if the feelings are not reciprocated.

Merrick, in the meantime, continues to date looking for that special someone, and right now he's trying to make it work with Will.

Will, insecure and jealous of Trevor and Merrick's close relationship, makes it difficult for everyone in the house. It's possible, however, that while Trevor may feel uncomfortable around Will hanging all over Merrick, there is something else thriving and growing under the animosity.

Merrick and Trevor have noticed weird things going on inside their house but they haven't been able to pinpoint anything specific so they pass it off as coincidence or the neighbors.

Tempest, another bestie of Trevor's puts the idea out there that the house is haunted. She continues to pursue this notion until they all give in and allow her to 'call' the spirits.

Merrick tries to keep Will out of the loop because who would believe the craziness, however, there are enough hostility and high emotions running rampant to cause paranormal havoc and chaos within the four walls, regardless. Whether it's due to Will's jealousy or Trevor's—or neither—something or someone must leave. But, who or what?

While the friends figure out how to reach this entity hidden within the house, they also have to reach within their own hearts and decide what they want from themselves and each other. Is it time to be honest because, as the house has demonstrated, tomorrow is not a given?

Soul Searching is definitely a thriller with a close-knit group of friends who love each other and only want the best for all. Sometimes they may overstep, but their hearts are in the right place.

If you love a thrilling paranormal with an edginess to ramp up the scare factor and low-key, but no less rewarding romance in the background, Soul Searching definitely qualifies.

It began with a Halloween themed short story assignment from a second grade teacher, and from then on, AJ Rose fell head over heels in love with writing. Time has seen the beginning and end of many things, college and graduation, a finance career, and a marriage, and through it all, writing has been her first love.

Now, AJ is also head over heels for her wife, fellow author Kate Aaron, who gets it, the twitchy fingers when word counts are low too many consecutive days, the thousand-yard stare when an idea turns AJ's vision inward, and the jitters when the word-babies go out to meet the world. Nothing could stop the tall tales about imaginary people that refused to be ignored.

With a life full of this much passion, it's no wonder AJ chose romance. The voices in her head are mostly of the male persuasion, so m/m romance was about the only option. But don't be surprised if the occasional ghost still pops up.
