#BlogTour TEMPER (A "Ripples In The Status Quo" Story) by R. Phoenix + an awesome #Giveaway

I'm thrilled to have R. Phoenix here today with Book 5, TEMPER,  in her "Ripples in The Status Quo" series. I had a chance to sit down with Noah, who we first met in book 3, RECOIL, and have a one on one chat, and I'm excited to bring that interview here to you today.

Character Interview with Noah

Noah, are you here? You could say that… Not really sure how here I actually am, though.

It’s good to see you still have a little humor considering everything you’ve been through. Yeah? *with a bitter little half-laugh* Yeah. Humor. It’s either that, or--well. It’s just that.

Do you think you will ever forgive Khaz for what he did? Or is it still too fresh in your mind, and your body, what has happened over the last few hours? How can I forgive him for it? He killed me. He turned me into everything I hate… and then he let me believe I was handing myself over to fucking Elias Ivers out of some twisted--love, or something fucked up like that!

I would be pissed too. I am pissed on your behalf. What do you think you will do next? I know you don’t want to stay with him. That’s the bitch of it. I don’t know. I still have this fucking slave mark on my arm… and if I try to go anywhere, the Enforcers could pick me up just to be the dicks they are. And the idea of leaving him… *Despite his lack of need for breath, he takes in a deep breath.* I don’t know. The idea hurts.

Are you open to talking about what transpired at Ivers' house? The connection that you sensed with him that you now know was about your father? Is that right?  Tartarus is… Tartarus is worse than anything. It’s Ivers’ fucked-up little playground. I think Khaz went to his place; I sure as hell don’t want to see it. But there… I don’t know. It was like I was standing outside of myself somehow, just watching something happen. I don’t even know why I’m talking about any of this. But I saw him, and he was so familiar, and I know he saw me. He saw me, and he knew. He had to know… What do you want to know?

I guess my concern is do you think he will stick to his word and leave you alone?  I’ve heard a lot about Ivers. He might be a sadistic freak, but I think he meant it. I still have something he wants.

Now that your father is gone and you have been turned what will become of the rebellion? Are there still people left behind to support the cause?  They’re all gone. Everyone I knew on the outside… They’re gone. Dead. They martyred themselves. *His jaw clenches, and he has to look away for a moment.* But there are people who will step up. I’ve heard rumors about supes who want to change things. I just have to find them.

I know you are angry and hurt at Khaz and you have every right to be, but I know you can feel his emotions and must know that he truly feels something for you? No, he feels fucking sorry for himself! What he feels for me… it’s all bullshit. He may think he feels something, but he’s a fanger. They can’t care about anyone but themselves.

Is there anything you want to tell your fans who support you and stand behind you in this messed up world you are in? I’m not giving up. No matter what happens, I’m not going to let them win. I won’t stop until I erase what they did.

I know it doesn’t help your situation but I know you can do this. You are strong and have proven that over and over and you will get through this as well.

I would like to talk a little about what it’s like being a vampire now? Can we do that? It’s… It’s like an assault on your senses, 24/7. Everything’s too bright, too loud, too much. It’s like you’re always hungry, but you know what you have to do to get food is wrong. It’s always being cold. And it’s feeling someone else’s emotions in the back of your head, so strong you don’t even know what’s you any more. It’s hearing other people’s heartbeats and knowing that you don’t have one any more. I’m a walking corpse, and I’ve never felt more alive. It doesn’t make any sense.

You also made a comment about how powerful it made you feel when you were drinking and that you liked that feeling. That was before I understood, okay? It was wrong. What I did… It was fucking wrong!

I’m not judging you, please don’t think that. I’m just trying to understand what you are going through. Even as I write that I realize how stupid that is. There is no way to understand what you’ve gone through or how you feel. No. No. I… I’ve seen people who are curious, who think they’d just be this badass with superpowers. They just don’t realize that it corrupts. Everything like this corrupts. You know I wanted to be a fucking superhero when I was a kid? God, I was fucking stupid. The cost would be too high. The price is always too high. Just fucking remember that.

Do you think Khaz will be honest with you going forward or does it even matter to you, at this point, whether he’s honest or not? His lies got you in this mess and his selfishness. I don’t even know if he’s capable of being honest, so it’s sort of a moot point. But I don’t know. There’s something… Look, I can’t say there wasn’t anything there. I saw something. I wanted to stay with him. I just didn’t want this. So I don’t know. He’s just not the person I thought he might be. He’s only another leech.

For what it’s worth, I believe he does care about you, but he’s been alone for a long time and only had to worry about himself. Did he mess up? Yeah, he made some big mistakes, but maybe in time you two can at least be civil. I hope so for your sake, anyway. I’m not going to kill him, if that’s what you’re getting at. I should. He deserves it. But I can’t.

I hope you can at least find some kind of peace and I hope you can get that tattoo off of your wrist.

I want to thank you for taking the time to talk with me and opening up about what has happened since you were turned. Guess it’s easier to talk to a stranger. Yeah. You’re welcome, I guess.

Thank you, Noah

Only one thing can keep Ashton safe from the supernatural predators who made the world into their depraved, twisted playground after the Takeover—but it’s the one thing that would steal the last remnants of his freedom. At every turn, society confronts Reese and Ashton with the way humans are treated as mere playthings to be used and discarded. When they realize their own desires and pride have no place in the status quo, Ashton and his werewolf lover understand they’ll have to engage in the deadly games played by those in charge if they want to make a difference.

But Reese isn’t a diplomat, and Ash is only human. Together, they must decide if they’re willing to work with the devil they know in what might change everything or rely on their consciences in a world that has no place for kindness or honor... and if they’re ready to sacrifice everything along the way.

“He’s not going to intervene,” Mays sneered. “He knows better than to fuck with my slaves. Don’t you, Khaz?” Something seemed to pass between him and the vampire, and whatever it was, it made the air feel almost like it thrummed with tension. There was something ugly between them, but Ashton was too worn out to even begin to try to figure out what it was.

“I’m not getting involved,” the vampire—Khaz—said. The man at his side, who Ashton could have sworn had moved to intervene before, lifted his head sharply, grey eyes sparking silver. But before he could do more than open his mouth, Khaz tugged on his arm.C’mon, Noah.

Noah hesitated, and Ashton could see the disgust in his eyes when they fell upon Mays. And as they returned to Ashton, there was something furious within them—furious and cold, and Ashton couldn’t help but think they promised violence. He didn’t understand why Noah’s eyes blazed like that even as his expression was something neutral.

Noah’s features made it almost seem like he didn’t care, but the fingers tightening on his arm and the tension in his body told a different story.Yeah,” he said flatly. “Not getting involved.” The grip on his arm held him in place, and Khaz guided him toward the second door. Noah cast one last look over his shoulder before entering the staircase, and the door closed quietly behind them.

With them went the last remnants of Ashton’s hope, and he sagged again as Mays chuckled in their wake.

Pat quirked a brow, his fingers lazily stroking his length into a half-hearted erection. “What was that all about?”

Ashton whimpered; the man’s stamina was something ridiculous. If this was what happened to werewolves during their time of the month, Ashton wasn’t sure he ever wanted to be around them as the full moon drew nearer again.

He might have liked being with Reese if he was insatiable before, but now… Everything had changed.

“Fucking whore stole one of my slaves.” Mays’ expression twisted into something ugly—well, something even uglier—and the snarl that sounded from him was more animal than human. “Fucking vampires.

My Review for Owned - Book 4

Elias Ivers was promised a slave recently captured from the Rebellion, and it would have only been a matter of time before the witch broke a mere human.

His new pet would have been a beautiful match to his already enslaved werewolf, and the potential information gain was not something he was willing to pass up.

However, when Malkhaz takes what should have rightfully been his in a single hasty decision, Elias is determined to make the vampire pay. No one denies an Ivers witch what he wants–especially not someone who’s little more than dirt beneath his expensive shoes.

Revised & expanded edition as of 4/15/16. Please note that content, publisher, and other aspects of the work have changed.

Owned is approximately 38,500 words (excluding front/back matter).

In this installment of Ripples in the Status Quo Noah learns his fate and, at first, it seems like Khaz may have made the best and right choice for them both. But, with his choice he also had to offer Mays something in return for not delivering Noah back to him and unfortunately, Mays is not the only one he has to worry about.

Elias Ivers seems to have no bounds or limitations as to what he asks or demands of those at his mercy. Now that Noah is a vampire and can no longer be bought, Elias has other ways to get what he wants and even though he made a promise to Khaz that one night would settle a debt I’m not confident that it will be over that quickly. As the night lingers on and Noah’s memory gains strength, his hate and anger grows as well.

And let’s talk about Noah… my heart continues to break for him. He is brutally hurt and forced to endure pain at the hands of supes who are out to prove they can dominate him just because they can. The revelations in his mind have never been more clear as they are now which only intensifies his hate for vampires including his sire …especially his sire.

Lies and deceit run rampant where power and dominance fight to stay in charge. Noah has a lot to figure out and understand and I hope that Khaz has seen the error of his ways with lying and will be truthful with him from now on but, ultimately - he is using him, as well, so time will tell - I guess.

The creativity and imagination the author has used to build this world is captivating and really pulls the reader in from start to finish. I like the author’s voice in how she relays the story in a way that you can feel the tension and underlying fear as you read. The content is dark and delicious if you like that sort of thing. Granted it won’t be for everyone, but if you like to read with tingles going up your spine this is the series that will do it. 5 STARS

R. Phoenix (aka Raissa Phoenix) has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes that love can corrupt and power can redeem. Her muse is a sadomasochistic slavedriver who thinks it's terribly amusing to give her the best ideas when she just got comfortable and warm in bed, and she passes on that torture to her readers.

If she had it her way, she would describe the books in her "Ripples in the Status Quo" world as: "Supernatural creatures take over the world and turn humans into pets and food. There's some sex between guys. And... um... fucked up things happen." It's probably a good thing she has people around her to remind her that she actually wants people to read her books. (They should really be more diligent, especially when they know she's writing her author bio.)

She's an author, stay-at-home mother, housewife, second time college student, and duck herder extraordinaire. She's learning how to cook without burning the house down, her garden is somehow neither drowning nor drying up, and one day she might remember what that mythical thing called "free time" is. She's starting to wonder who thought it was a good idea to write bios in third person.

She also tries entirely too hard to be funny, and she mercilessly inflicts her terrible sense of humor upon anyone who speaks to her. Really, it's not you. It's her. All the same, she'd love it if you'd say hello, because it makes her day to hear that someone read something she wrote. If they enjoyed it, there's usually an awkward happy dance and embarrassing sounds of joy to accompany it (no, not that kind of sound, you perv).
