Evan's Luck (Riding the Circuit) #1

Jennah Scott & H. Sterling

Release Date: April 26, 2016

Spencer Quinn has an image to uphold. His family name means more than

anything. It’s the reason they've become the most successful

stock contractor on the rodeo circuit. Fresh out of school, he’s ready to take

over the family business. It’s no secret he’s attracted to men, and so far

that hasn’t been a problem.

Until Evan.

The assertive friend who knows how to push every one of his buttons.

Evan Taylor is known for his love ‘em and leave ‘em style, yet the last few

months have left him deflated and lonely. His father's shadow wasn't where

he wanted to end up, but he's having trouble finding happiness. Maybe

because women can't keep his attention. He’s losing hope of settling down

until a blast from the past saunters by, his heart catches and tingles spread

over his skin.

Of all people, Spencer. The one person who would never give Evan a

second glance. It’s just his luck.

The old saying, “Bad luck is better than none at all” fits Evan perfectly. Or

does it? Is his bad luck about to change? Will Spencer Quinn be a good

luck charm instead?

My Review

Evan's Luck is a feel good, low-angst story that will put a smile on your face. The backdrop of the story surrounds the rodeo where Evan has made a name for himself as one of the top bull riders. However, once the ride is over, he has made another name for himself as a player with the buckle bunnies and how many he can bed within a week-end.

Evan's not happy though and his biggest fear of turning into his father haunts him daily. Evan wants to make a change in his life for the better and he knows it will be hard but he's willing to prove to not only himself but to the one man that makes his head spin that he can change.

It's also time to admit that women have never made him feel anything what one look from Spencer Quinn makes him feel. Now he just needs to win the man's affections. Easier said that done, considering Spencer can't stand Evan.

Spencer hears all the stories about Evan from his brother Ross who also happens to be Evan's best friend. So he's caught off guard when Evan tries to kiss him and it makes him furious. It's not easy being gay around the rodeo but fortunately for Spencer his family accepts him and so far he hasn't had any problems, but he doesn't flaunt it anyone's face either. He's been so busy with school and working that he hasn't had time to date either, but that's all about to change.

I really enjoyed the story from these two authors who kept the premise more on the lighthearted side. I felt like there were some parts of the story missing especially with Spencer being so concerned about homophobia around the rodeo but as this was a novella I also considered this more a prequel to a bigger story in the future.

The banter between Evan and Spencer was really funny and they played off each other really well. It was really a joy to read a family dynamic as incredible as the Quinn's. The power play between Evan and Spencer was also fun and hot and made me smile. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the ending was really sweet. 4 Stars
