1 wedding, 2 best men, one hell of a love story!
Declan Ramsay's brother Oliver was marrying Annabelle Aiken at a fairy tale Castle on the banks of Loch Ness in Scotland. The bride and groom decided, so that he didn’t feel left out, Annabelle's gay younger brother Sam Should share the best man duties with Declan.
Declan had never met the kid who was to be his joint best man.
Sam Aiken was abroad, working as an interpreter and finishing his studies. He wouldn’t meet Declan until a few days before the wedding, so the best men communicated and planned their speech by email for more than a year.
But on meeting Sam Aiken, Declan is surprised to realise the kid isn't a kid at all, but a tall, blond and athletic young man. Declan is sure he's straight, so he's alarmed by the ferocious attraction he feels for Sam. And as the attraction is reciprocated, the events at Dunloch Castle change everything Declan has ever believed about himself.
But is Samuel Aiken all that he appears to be?

I really enjoyed As you Wish and I’m thrilled that their story will be continued. This is my first time reading Isobel Starling and I can honestly say I am interested and intrigued to read more. The story centers around Dunloch Castle in Scotland where Sam’s sister is marrying Declan’s brother.
Both, Declan and Sam, are going to be the best men so over the course of a year they have exchanged emails making plans for the big day. When Declan and Sam first meet, face to face, they don’t really like each other that much. Even when they find out who they are, there still seems to be animosity.
That changes quickly in this fast-paced story and an insta-love between Declan and Sam take precedence over the wedding. I enjoyed their time together and didn’t really consider it “insta” because they’ve technically been talking to each other for over a year. I found the humor and banter between the two hysterical and it kept me laughing for most of the story. They play off each other with references to The Princess Bride and it is laugh out loud funny. They are a perfect match for each other.
There are moments of seriousness and there is an underlying tension that runs in the background that keeps the reader on edge just a bit. We know something is amiss with Sam, we just don’t know what nor does Declan, but he feels it too. I like that there is a little suspense and intrigue mixed in with burning hot chemistry these two have for each other.
It took me a bit too understand some of the words the author used but once I did, the Scottish brogue made the story that much more enjoyable for me. Were there some things a little over the top? Yeah, but this was originally intended for a Goodreads short story event so I have no problem suspending my disbelief in favor of a fun, enjoyable, and feel good story. And, I certainly had that with As You Wish.
I can’t wait to find out what plans the author has for them in Illuminate the Shadows. I’ll definitely be reading the next book in their journey.
