Chapter 5: The Grocery Store
Most weres have been to a human grocery store while still in the family nest/pack/cave. Thus, the perceived familiarity with the site can lead to certain assumptions about what is and isn’t appropriate behavior while shopping in the human world.
First of all, it’s important to prepare appropriately for your trip to this heaven of foodstuffs. An unprepared were may find themselves in a situation where they can’t decide between the many choices on offer, and the ease of access can lead to some undesirable consequences.
Justina’s story: Breda and I went to the grocery store for food because we were hungry. Breda got distracted by the roasted chickens they had out for everyone and by the time we were done, she’d eaten three. The grocery store people were very upset at the mess, but really, why would we keep the bones after we’d sucked the marrow out? Humans are weird.
Our first point, learning from Justina’s experience, is to never go to the grocery store hungry.
Meet the author:
Kate Lowell lives on the east coast of Canada, in an old farm house that has way more personality than it has any right to. During the winter, she spends her time dreading snow, cursing at snow, shoveling snow, and scheming ways to shove it down the kids' necks. During the summer, she prays not to have snow. :)
Kate likes to play in ALL the sandboxes. While her main genres are paranormal and contemporary suspense, she is also interested in science fiction, fantasy and--weirdly--romantic comedy. She’s willing to pay large amounts of money to anyone who can come up with a Time Turner, or find her an agreeable Time Lord to sort out her scheduling problems.
