Love unearthed his heart from the cold, hard ground.
Now comes the fight to revive it.

Love.

Just when Max Kelley thought he’d eradicated it from his life for good it snuck back in, in the form of his beautiful new sub, Sean. Something that Max is far from happy about. In fact, he fights it tooth and nail. Having his world decimated was hell on earth, an experience he’d go to any lengths to avoid repeating.

Problem is, while his head is determined to protect his heart, his heart can’t stop thinking about Sean. Sean, his perfect sub, his perfect match, his perfect everything. Which makes him that much more of a threat. Were Max to claim him and then lose him, the devastation would be far greater than even Kevin’s death.

So, in order to ensure his heart and soul stay intact, he must once again eradicate love from his life. Eradicate Sean from his world. But Sean is a scrapper, just like Max, and refuses to give up without a fight.

In their final showdown of fiery passion and wills, whose heart will come out in one piece?

Warning: This erotic, gay, BDSM romance contains intensely explicit sexual scenes both inside and out of the dungeon.

** Note from the author: In keeping with the promise I made to my Upending Tad devotees, I've included a small side story with Tad and Scott in book 2 where we delve a bit further into the developments of their relationship, and all the wonderful ways they've been keeping each other's hearts pounding. So, be prepared for a few more character point of views! Tad and Scott aren't going anywhere. XXO

Love.

The most powerful force in existence, but also the most ruthless. Cunning and deceptive.Man’s greatest Achilles heel. Leaving all who embrace it weak and vulnerable.

At least that’s how Dom-for-hire Max Kelley sees it, after the love of his life knocked him on his ass. A brutal blow that not only stole his breath, but decimated his ability to trust. Turning him cold and cynical. The TKO he never saw coming.

Love.

A mistake Max won’t ever make again.
Meaning no more relationships—not exactly a hardship. Just the thought of dating makes him queasy, and one of the reasons he doms for a living. To sexually engage without the poison of intimacy. The other reason? To keep his demons sated. With whips and chains, and scandalous kink. A fiery mix that always hits the spot.

That is, until a bright-eyed beauty walks into his life and refuses to leave.

Sean Matthews. College senior and flirt extraordinaire. Max’s newest—and greenest—client sub. Man, is he delicious; able to push Max’s buttons, able to make him crave the things he knows he shouldn’t. Sound the alarm, this can only mean trouble. Unfortunately, deterring Sean proves virtually impossible, and now Max finds himself at a crossroads.

Man up and kick his favorite sub to the curb… or succumb to his own caged desires.

Warning: This erotic, gay, BDSM romance contains intensely explicit sexual scenes both inside and out of the dungeon.

Review

★★★★★

Kora Knight is back with an even more powerful and haunting tale of Max and Sean in Revived, book two, in The Dungeon Black Duology. The battle continues as Sean fights for Max against a demon he has no knowledge of, but his forceful and persistent bravery and courage keeps him at the forefront of Max’s thoughts—day in and day out.

As weeks turns into months and their Dom/sub sessions continue, so do their feelings for each other. The difference is—Sean is willing to admit them—where Max is not. However, once Max realizes what’s happening he turns the tables in order to put a stop to everything that’s happening between them.

No matter how drunk or how many fights he gets into with Scott the truth plagues him,  but he is one stubborn SOB and there were times my heart was literally breaking for him—for everything he has lost and felt he was undeserving of—and then there were times I wanted to hit him over the head for being so damn stubborn and holding onto a grudge for years.

And Sean. . .God, love his soul. He has the patience of a saint. He loves Max with every fiber of his being. It takes him awhile to understand, himself, the connection they have and why he’s so pulled to Max. He takes a lot of ridicule from his roommate over his “obsession” of Max, but he doesn’t understand what Max & Sean have between them and there’s no way to explain—or even try—because the connection is fundamentally too deep. He knows Max is “the one” and it’s frustrating that Max won’t give him a chance to prove that he can be everything he needs. But, Love his heart, that boy gives it everything he’s got.

Scott and Tad have quite a bit of page time also and it was awesome to follow along with their relationship—still going strong—and meet some new friends who will be getting a book of their own down the road.

Kora Knight gutted me with this book so I’d advise to have your tissues ready. It’s not easy to get through and I had to put it down on more than one occasion to get to the end. I was worried not only about Max and Sean’s relationship but about Max and Scott. They seemed to be drifting apart as well, and with Max not really having anyone in his corner to talk with—that was hurting me. Scott has a lot of his time taken up with Tad—rightfully so. . . he’s a man in love, but thankfully he was still able to see what was going on with Max and be the friend that he needed and HOLY HELL did he need him.

Max spends so much time being conflicted, tortured in his past, hating and blaming against something that wasn’t his fault that he doesn’t know how to be any other way. For over a decade he has trained his mind—and his actions—to run from these emotions of love and trust. At first, he doesn’t see what everyone else sees with Sean, when they are together, but when he starts putting the pieces together it’s like his mind has a train wreck. It’s too much for him to handle because he swore he would never do that again and even if he wanted too—which he doesn’t—he doesn’t know how to change his way of thinking.

Thank God Sean is strong and determined, but even the strong and determined can’t do much if they’ve been locked out.

There’s so much that happens between these two but you must read to find out. A lot of their time is spent inside Max’s dungeon—going through their sessions—and they are HOT AS HELL, they are intimate, they are goose bump worthy, and will have your nerves tingly all over. They are also imperative to the story, you will learn a lot of Max and Sean’s character through these scenes and what makes them both who they are and ultimately why they are so perfect for each other.

You don’t want to miss this journey the author takes you on as she exposes the inner soul of Max. His demons are ugly and they have festered for many years and as he tries to fight them you will see a side of him that’s hard to take but there’s also a side of Max that was breathtaking and I sat here with a smile plastered across my face and literally basked in his joy as he danced and made love to his - a stór.

Revived is a must read but it is not a standalone and must be read in order. I would even recommend reading the Upending Tad series first in order to get the full benefit of the characters. It’s definitely worth it.
