Sometimes you need to go back to your past, in order to move on to your future.

Jax Hunter has spent the last ten years trying to forget his first love Nathan Steele—and the brutal betrayal that derailed everything he’d worked so hard for. Jax has finally gotten his life back together, when Nathan returns to deliver another blow – his company is set to bulldoze the bar he’s built from nothing.

Ever since that summer in high school, Nathan has been denying his feelings for Jax—the only person he’s ever loved. Nathan knows Jax might never forgive him, but when Nathan’s uncle is murdered and Nathan might be next on the hit-list, Jax is the only one he can turn to.

Jax still doesn’t trust Nathan—not with his bar, and for damn sure, not with his heart. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to resist the undeniable passion between them. Can they overcome their past hurts and learn to trust each other again? Or will another betrayal tear them apart forever?

***This is a steamy M/M romance with explicit scenes throughout.***

Review

Gah!! I absolutely love this book. The relationship between Jax and Nathan is so volatile and brutal yet there is so much passion and raw intensity behind their emotions that it’s hard for either of them to even be in the same room with the other.

Jax was betrayed by Nathan as teenagers and being as he was in love with him, at the time, it devastated him and left a lasting impact that continues to haunt him even now—years later.

As adults, Jax can hardly look at Nathan without remembering all of those times together or wishing things could have been different—wanting to pin him against the wall—even now—and take what he wants and he wants him—right now. But he also remembers that dreadful day, so he doesn’t know what he wants to do first. . .fuck him or fight him.

Nathan carries the burden and guilt daily for what he did to Jax all those years ago and he knows that he is the last person that Jax wants to see let alone would be willing to trust, but he truly wants to help him if Jax will just give him the chance.

Nathan’s father has it out for Jax and plans to destroy him. He has always hated him and he is the reason for all of Nathan’s bad decisions when it comes to Jax.

In order for Nathan to help his once best friend—the one person he loves—he will have to come out of the closet and stand up to his father, the one thing he has never been able to do.

However, in order to gain Jax’s trust and love, he will have to take a stand and be the man he needs to be. He needs to take back his life. Not only for Jax but for himself, as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth, rough and sometimes aggressive dynamics between these two strong willed powerful men who underneath their “can’t touch this” facade were really breaking apart inside and were lonely and lost and missed each other for years. The writer's descriptive narrative pulled me in from the very beginning and kept me glued to the pages.

Jax really got the shit end of the stick handed to him but he persevered, pulled up his boot straps and made something of himself to be proud of.

My heart was really breaking for Nathan because from the outside looking in, he had it all. He was rich, had the nice house, fancy cars, the wealth, but really. . . he had nothing.

He had no friends, no one to talk to, no social life, nothing to really call his own, he marched to the beat of his father’s orders and thankfully, Jax was able to find that he could still forgive and admit that he still loved Nathan.

I highly recommend this story with action packed drama, sizzling sexual chemistry that opens full throttle as soon as they make eye contact, high intensity, spine tingling, tongue drooling sex, laugh out loud banter. a constant undercurrent of danger, and there is great secondary characters of good friends who I hope we see more of very soon.

A must read for contemporary romance lovers. A definite 5 star read for me and a co-author collaboration that I will be adding to my auto-buy must have list.
