“Because love is the easiest way to control someone and I needed a way to control you.”
Still mending a broken heart, Matthew has spent a year avoiding incubi and their army of hunters.
Now he has a new goal: lift the shroud on his past. Why had he been turned and abandoned by his sire? Why didn’t he feel the initial bond between sire and child that vampires experience? Who were his parents, and why had they given him up at birth?
Frustrated by dead ends, his luck changes when a teenage girl tracks him down. She’s strange, socially awkward, and she can see the future. Matthew’s future. She’ll help him if he agrees to save her from the darkness…from Tarrick.
With the incubi armies closing in, a mysterious protector appears, swearing his fealty to Matthew. He’s ancient, seductive, and cursed—unable to explain why he keeps calling Matthew ‘my prince’.

Review: Sire, Beautiful Monsters, Volume II, brings us a year into Matthew’s search for his birth parents and his Sire, and unfortunately, he has had no luck on either end. After Matthew’s escape, he stayed with Ascelina for a few months gathering his strength and trying to come to terms with everything that happened with Tarrick, in Captive, Book One. Realizing he needs to set out on his own he ends up in Chicago with empty blood pouches and feeling very lonely.
Needing touch desperately, he goes to a local club and compels a couple to a dark room in the back hoping for at least an orgasm. His senses tell him he is being watched and he notices a young girl hiding out in a men’s only club. When Matthew chases her for answers he has no idea that his whole world is about to change.
Samantha, or Sam, is an oracle, someone who can see the future. She has always been an outcast, a loner, but she is pulled to Matthew because she has seen his future and although she doesn’t understand everything about it or what it all means she just knows that she must follow her path.
Also, looking for Matthew is Devak, a guardian, who will be very vital to Matthew’s existence. Unlike Sam, Devak does have all the answers but he has been cursed therefore he cannot share anything that he knows. Once the curse is broken he will be able to tell Matthew anything and everything he wants to know, but until that happens, unfortunately, they must steal, borrow, compel, kill, and fight for their lives to get to Delphi where Samantha swears the curse can be broken. The question is— who will be waiting on them when they get there? Until then. . .
Matthew and Sam have a lot to figure out and they bicker and fight and fuss, but more than anything they are forming a close bond. Matthew is slowly forming a family and whether he admits it or not he enjoys having people around him to talk to and laugh with.
As Matthew, Sam, Devak, and Jet, a gargoyle that joined the journey, go from one place to the next looking for clues and answers, they find more trouble and danger. Matthew still aches for Tarrick even though he knows it’s a useless waste of time and he knows his feelings will never be reciprocated but he can’t help the way he feels.
He wants to be left alone and not be used in the war between the vampires and the incubus but neither side believe him and both sides want to use him for their own benefit. There is so much deception going on that you don’t know who to trust; if you can trust anyone, at all. Matthew is so distraught over what to do that he fears doing the wrong thing will land him in the evil clutches of a prison cell. . . again.
Even though the book is titled Sire, we don’t get a lot of information about who Sire is. Matthew gets a visit from him and it’s not what he imagined it to be. It’s not what I imagined it to be. He is not a very nice man, if you can even call him that. He is evil and I think Matthew is very concerned and very worried and he has very good reason to be. I’m not happy with him and how he treated Matthew especially after everything Matthew has went through to find him. I just hope I’m wrong.
Spells are broken, people are dying, some are already dead, danger is thick, deceit is running rampant, flabbergasted doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings, but make no mistake, you will call me “Master” and we close out on another cliffhanger.
God, Jex Lane, you are killing me!!
