Tigger Flint and Thomas Flame shared an instant mutual hate for one another from the day they met in sixth grade. Their dislike grew into competition and rivalry throughout high school as they were stuck in the same honors classes and played the same sports. That hatred and rivalry followed them into adulthood as one became a cop and the other a fireman.
Sharing the same haunt, Guns & Hoses, gave everyone from both departments plenty of opportunity to witness their personal war. Being forced back onto the football field for charity gave both men another venue for their hatred and rivalry to make an appearance.
But those feelings weren't the only emotions in attendance and the winner of games could just be both of them.
This book contains adult m/m sexual situations and is intended for readers of legal age in the country in which they reside.
Guns & Hoses, by Brenda Cothern, was an intriguing story about two men who are only use to hooking up with one night stands on the weekends. One a fireman, the other a detective, they do not hide their sexuality but they don’t advertise either. As far as they know their co-workers are oblivious that they take only men to their beds. I think they may know more than they admit to, but time will tell.
Tigger Flint, aka Tig, and Thomas Flame or just Flame have hated each other since elementary school. Their feelings haven’t changed over the years and anytime they come into contact with the other there is usually a fight or hateful words thrown around.
When each one, respectively, are asked to be the liaison for their departments for the charity flag football, they agree. When they meet with the coordinator of the event and come face to face they are less than thrilled. When they get out on the field, Flame realizes this may not be so bad after all. Any chance to knock Tig on his ass is a chance he’s not willing to pass up. What he didn’t expect, however, was to enjoy the feel of Tig underneath him.
Tig hangs out at Guns & Hoses, the local bar, through the week with his co-partner. But, when the weekend comes he heads out to a gay bar looking for his next one night stand. When a fire starts in the upstairs of the bar and everyone is rushed to the outside for safety who does Tig run into? Oh yeah… Flame. Tig can’t get it out of his head that Flame may also be gay. He also can’t stop thinking about his muscular body and what he would feel like in his bed.
Their first hook-up happens in the bathroom stall of the bar. From there, the story picks up and turns into a hot, sexy, and thrilling journey. The author is new to me but I really enjoyed her writing style and connected instantly with the characters. They were fun, engaging, and even though they tried to hold back their feelings for each other, we got to see the truth play out in their heads and it was awesome. They were funny and had me smiling from ear to ear many times.
The plot had a little of everything that I enjoy in my stories. Tig and his partner are working on a case about drug dealers so there were a couple times that S.W.A.T. was called into action and it was intense and suspenseful. Especially, because both times the fire department was also called in so that immediately ramped up the intensity of what would happen between Tig and Flame. You never knew if they would fight or fuck, lol. I’ll just say that fighting was not what they had in mind.
My only complaint with the story was throughout the course of the book it was mentioned several times that Tig and Flame hated each other since sixth grade. Of course, they put that hate behind them and really started to have feelings for the other, however, unless I missed it the author never said why they hated each other. I wondered many times why their hate was so strong but maybe we will find out later on. It’s not that big of an issue, but it would have been nice to see them talk about it and put it behind them for good.
Actually, they didn’t talk much, at all, to each other because they had more important things in the bedroom to take care of. And, wow… did they ever. They did text each other with some very sexy dialogue that got everyone hot and bothered. What started out as aggressive, rough and almost brutal sex, which was HOT, by the way, turned into lovemaking by the end.
They do have some misunderstandings not only between themselves but with their co-workers. Revelations are made putting all of them in a very awkward situation. Luckily, the confusion is put to rest pretty quickly but not before danger steps in. Will they be able to reignite their passion and be open about their feelings? Read this story, you won’t regret it.
I definitely would recommend this for anyone who loves the m/m genre. If you love alpha males and hot sex you can’t go wrong with this book. I loved it so much I’m going to get book 2, Fire & Ice, next. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
