My Review

Wait for Me, by T.S. McKinney and B.J. Grinder is action-packed with drama and horrific events. There are many moments of nail biting and teeth grinding. If you have triggers about abuse or rape I would suggest you stay away from this book. If you don’t then I would tell you to jump right in and hang in for one thrilling ride.

If someone was touching you; it was to inflict pain or bring them pleasure... They never ever touched you to offer comfort, compassion, or love. It would take him awhile to get used to the feeling. He knew he liked it, that much was certain.

Starting off, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I read the blurb and was intrigued especially since it involves two of my favorite categories, FBI (special agents) and BDSM. There are three main characters the story focuses around. Susannah, FBI agent and Dominatrix – Tyler, Susannah’s work partner and friend, and – Jasper, 18 yr. old neighbor to Susannah plus he wants a relationship with her.

Susannah hasn’t been with the FBI very long and she isn’t sure if she wants to stay. She and Tyler are working on a human trafficking case that goes horribly wrong. It’s too late and the damage is done when they realize they have been setup. Among the casualties is Jasper who has been kidnapped by the traffickers.

A devastated Susannah goes into seclusion for 9 months where she wallows in self-pity and blame. She is staying with her brother and his lover where no one has been able see beyond the walls of his fortress.

After many months of searching, Tyler locates her and they make an attempt to patch up their friendship. There is always an underlying current going on between Tyler and Susannah that I wasn’t able to figure out. Tyler wants her for himself, and even though Susannah wasn’t aware of his true feelings, to her they were just good friends, something still bugged me about him.

During these months, Jasper has been going through his own hell and torment. Being trained day in and day out to be a sex slave from the worst scum imaginable has taken its toll on him. He is used and abused over and over and it appears he is about to give up. Victor, the sadistic bastard that captured Jasper has fallen for him, but he still treats him horribly and does unthinkable acts to him.

This is a really hard book to review because there were so many elements at play. That is not the problem so much as trying not to spoil the story for others. I think the authors done a fantastic job keeping the suspense and danger at an all-time high. As the reader, I was always on guard waiting for the next awful thing to happen. The authors’ details and descriptions were handled very well and the nervous energy was palpable and spot on.

There were many times throughout the course of the book that I feared for Jasper and what would become of him. He was treated brutally by very sadistic bastards who got their pleasure from causing him pain. The more pain they subjected to him the happier they became.

The authors incorporated many twists and turns in this story and they cleverly took me along on the ride. I was completely enthralled in the storyline as far as the action and drama. The one thing that didn’t work for me, at all, and actually almost pulled me from the story was Susannah.

I felt she was not sincere in her actions. She felt like she was playing the part instead of taking it seriously.  She is a dominatrix, but I don’t feel she knew how to play her role. She was told over and over she would have to be patient with Jasper. She basically would need to treat him with kid gloves. You can only imagine how damaged his psyche would be from the months of humiliation and torture.

She wanted him to open up to her and talk, and when he finally reaches that stage, she would shut him up. She was his Domme and he would do what she says, say what she wanted him to say. She did this over and over and it just wasn’t believable to me. She, being the Dominatrix, was only supposed to take on this role during scenes in the playroom or in the bedroom, yet she was constantly bossing Jasper and making him meet her demands, away from the bedroom. Jasper wants to submit to her, but this never came up prior to the kidnapping. After his rescue, they automatically fall within this role, yet at no time did they ever discuss how it would work during D/s play in or out of the bedroom. I’ve read a lot of BDSM books and this fell short to me.

He wasn’t going to use a safe-word either which is a big no no in the BDSM world, but finally threw one out just to get on with it. These are things that need to be discussed and explain why they are important. Again, that dialogue just never happened. She also carried the blame game too far, IMO, even though she knew it wasn’t her fault.

You won’t hurt me. You can’t hurt me.

The other thing I struggled with was jumping back and forth between characters within the same paragraph and it became confusing, at times, who was actually speaking. A few times I had to back up and read the line again just to clarify for myself who was talking. BUT……

Even though that didn’t work for me, the author’s deserve a lot of credit for the conclusion of this story. At no point in the story was I able to figure out who the leak was that originally put them all in this situation. I was completely floored and flabbergasted when the details came out and actually started smiling from ear to ear thinking… OMG that was amazing!! The ending was absolutely brilliant on more than one occasion. It seemed the surprises just kept coming and wow, the author’s certainly stumped me. And, how awesome is that to be blind-sided.

This is a very intense storyline and the plot very well thought out. There was sex in the book but the main focus went towards the plot and I thought that was how it should have been. There are several secondary characters that had major roles and without them the story would have definitely been incomplete. I am anxious to find out more about them, hopefully, in future books.

I would definitely recommend this story if you like heavy action and a lot of drama. The angst is prominent in several places but the authors kept the story going at a fairly fast pace. The bad buys in the story were definitely bad, in every way, with no redemption towards their characters, and had they tried I don’t think I would have believed them. They were bad for a reason and hopefully they will be paying the price for their crimes for a long time to come. For the good guys, there is a happy ever after, for more than one key player.

This is the first published book for T.S. McKinney and B.J. Grinder and I think they created an exceptional, well thought out story with lots of action and drama. My only complaint was what I mentioned above, but with that said, this was over 600+ pages of incredible, intense, dialogue that will suck you in and hold you as captive as the characters.

About the Authors

T.S. McKinney

T.S. McKinney lives in East Tennessee with her high school sweetheart/husband and all the countless dogs she picks up from deserted country roads. Her professional career has been in business but her heart has always belonged to the fantasy world found in books.

Creating wicked worlds where one can meet the perfect hero – and then do anything to him that you want – has been a hobby that has brought her plenty of hours of fun and naughty entertainment.

When not working, reading, or writing, she loves to spend time with my family and forcing them (because they don’t really have another choice) to allow me to redecorate their houses…and listen to my naughty…sometimes sadistic stories.

B.J. Grinder

B.J. Grinder was born and raised in a small Tennessee town.  She's the single mother of four children, three dogs and three frogs.  She enjoys hiking, reading, and, of course, writing.  With a life this busy, sometimes a girl needs to escape into the fantasy land offered by books!
